Pre Whistler Checklist. What to Do BEFORE You Arrive!
Here is a bit of a checklist
Here is a bit of a Pre Whistler checklist
(in no particular order) on what to get organised if you're planning to stay
here long term. And yes, this is before you arrive to Whistler!
-
Grocery shop - If you can, do a BIG shop in Vancouver or
make frequent visits to Squamish. You will not believe how expensive the price
of food is up here. Whatever price it is in Vancouver - double it for
Whistler.
-
Organise a house - some may think it is easier to secure a
house whilst you are here, but... it is the same procedure (see accommodation
page), where you ring and get an answering machine. If you secure your
accommodation early enough, you should be set the time you arrive. Otherwise
book your bed now in a hostel.
Get your working visa and SIN number - it is illegal for you
to be employed without a visa and SIN. And basically they won't employ you
without one. Why would they? Employers have thousands of qualified workers,
with visa's, at their feet. See

Snowboard equipment and clothing - if you are needing to buy
equipment and clothing, do it pre Whistler. It is a total rip off here, as in
any ski resort. You can purchase your gear in Vancouver, or better still, in
America. Just some of the things you will be needing are;
Board
Boots
Bindings
Helmut
Stomp pad
Wrist guards
Goggles
Gloves
Jacket
Pants
Neck/face guard
Toque/Beanie
Book an interview - this is something you may do while here.
But if you are planning to go to the Whistler Blackcomb job fair (usually held
in late October/early November), the earlier you book your interview the more
flexibility you will have with the time and date of it.
